Snowboarding in Vitosha

A great place for riding is less than an hour away with public transportation from Bulgaria’s capital Sofia. If you happen to live or stay for awhile in Sofia during the winter, snowboarding may turn out to be the perfect, easiest, and most adventurous way to spend your weekends or holiday. Due to the proximity of Vitosha Mountain and Sofia you could go any day snowboarding up there while leaving the big city underneath.

Although Vitosha is not the prefect mountain for ski touring, it is great for extreme skiing. Full of extreme ski routes, steep and with lots of rocks, Vitosha is one of the most preferred places by snowboarders. The most famous region there is Big resen Peak. Gorno Lale ski run passes just by the famous "Avalanche" - a wide and steep slope with several small couloirs at its left part. Nevertheless, if you are about to try some of these routes, have in mind that some of them are among the most dangerous avalanche slopes in Bulgaria.
